Epj Manuscript Transport through Cavities with Tunnel Barriers: a Semiclassical Analysis

چکیده
We study the innuence of a tunnel barrier on the quantum transport through a circular cavity. Our analysis in terms of classical trajectories shows that the semiclassical approaches developed for ballistic transport can be adapted to deal with the case where tunneling is present. Peaks in the Fourier transform of the energy-dependent transmission and reeection spectra exhibit a nonmonotonic behaviour as a function of the barrier height in the quantum mechanical numerical calculations. Semiclassical analysis provides a simple qualitative explanation of this behaviour, as well as a quantitative agreement with the exact calculations. The experimental relevance of the classical trajectories in mesoscopic and microwave systems is discussed.

Semiclassical approach to the ac conductance of chaotic cavities
We address frequency-dependent quantum transport through mesoscopic conductors in the semiclassical limit. By generalizing the trajectory-based semiclassical theory of dc quantum transport to the ac case, we derive the average screened conductance as well as ac weak-localization corrections for chaotic conductors. Thereby we confirm respective random matrix results and generalize them by accoun...
متن کاملTransport moments and Andreev billiards with tunnel barriers
Open chaotic systems are expected to possess universal transport statistics and recently there have been many advances in understanding and obtaining expressions for their transport moments. However when tunnel barriers are added, which represents the situation in more general experimental physical systems much less is known about the behaviour of the moments. By incorporating tunnel barriers i...

In this report, we review the results of our joint experimental and theoretical studies of electroninterference, and interaction, phenomena in open electron cavities known as quantum dots. The transport through these structures is shown to be heavily influenced by the remnants of their discrete density of states, elements of which remain resolved in spite of the strong coupling that exists betw...
متن کاملA Coherent Semiclassical Transport Model for Pure-state Quantum Scattering∗
We present a time-dependent semiclassical transport model for coherent pure-state scattering with quantum barriers. The model is based on a complex-valued Liouville equation, with interface condition at quantum barriers using complex-valued scattering coefficients computed from the steady-state Schrödinger equation. By retaining the phase information at the barrier, this coherent model is adequ...
